Global Citizenship Education

(display board 46 of 48)

Education that aims to strengthen peace should also seek to show people international perspectives and raise their awareness of their global citizenship. This includes topics such as:

  • The global climate crisis and efforts to combat it
  • The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular SDG 16 and SDG 5.
  • Colonialism and its consequences, Eurocentrism, and the Global South
  • Racism, sexism, ageism, ableism, lookism, homophobia, etc.
  • The situation of human rights and children's rights worldwide
  • The situation of women and LGBTIQA+ people worldwide: gender equality and feminism
  • The question of whether religions have made societies more peaceful in an international comparison

Such education usually requires access to the internet in order to be able to conduct further research. Media literacy must also be taught to help distinguish between reliable and unreliable information.
